PRESENTS VIRAL HEPATITIS IN HIV WITH CHUONG TRAN, MD
O V E R V I E W:
HIV has a major impact on the natural history, progression, and prognosis related to hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C (HCV) infection.HBV and HCV are viruses that infect the cells of the liver and can lead to cirrhosis, end-stage liver disease, or hepatocellular carcinoma.
Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that about 21% of people with HIV in the United States also haveHCV. About 5% to 10% of people with HIV in the United States are co-infected with HBV. In this webinar, we will discuss the screening andmanagement of people with HIV co-infected with viral hepatitis.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:
- Outline the approach to patients coinfected with HIV and HBV or HCV
- Summarize treatment and long-term management
- Demonstrate when referral to hepatology is indicated
