The primary objective of the Community Engagement Core (CEC) is to engage communities in the support, prioritization, and conduct of research and in the dissemination and implementation of research findings to foster approaches designed to improve indigenous and minority health and to reduce health disparities. To achieve this goal, the CEC will work closely with the Research Infrastructure Core (RIC) and Investigator Development Core (IDC) and the Ola HAWAII advisors and leadership to build community trust and foster participation in basic, clinical, and behavioral research across the University of Hawaii (UH) System. Relationship building will be facilitated through community-university exchange, community involvement in research prioritization and proposal review, and capacity-building opportunities for members of community-based organizations (CBOs) that serve underrepresented groups and, in particular, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders.
